Diet: The Fiber 35 Diet
Overview:
Written by Brenda Watson, CNC, the Fiber 35 Diet focuses on the simple principle that people need to strive for foods with 35 grams of fiber a day. Follow this, and the rest will fall into place both for your health and weight loss.
The major keys:
Focus on getting enough fiber, and the rest of your diet and lifestyle will be healthy as a result.
Laguna Hills Loss Clinic asks:
What do you see as the major strengths of this weight loss plan?
Increasing fiber intake has been linked to better health and weight loss. These include: improving glycemic control on diabetics, lowering cholesterol, and possibly preventing some forms of cancer. Fibers are found in both soluble and insoluble forms. The insoluble fibers are the ones that give people bulk in their stool and improves stool regularity and constipation. The soluble fibers are the ones that have all the health benefits as described above. Eating a diet high in soluble fiber as described by the Fiber 35 diet can potentially have all those health benefits.
Laguna Hills Weight Loss Clinic asks:
What are the weaknesses of this weight loss plan?
This unfortunately is another fad diet wrapped in a gimmick. If you look at the diet very carefully, it is divided into three phases. The first phase askes the participants to decrease caloric intake by 1,000 calories per day for a month then 500 calories per day until goal weight is reached. The 35g of fiber does not really come into play until their weight loss goal has been achieved. Data does exist pertaining to high fiber diets that can help curb hunger with the bulking of the food. However, the data is scant and limited. Furthermore, eliminiating 1,000 calories from your dietary intake for a month is very difficult for people to achieve without expert advice.
Laguna Hills Weight Loss Clinic asks:
If followed closely, is this a weight loss plan that will work for users? Why?
It may work for some people, but most likely not the majority. The hardest part of the diet is the first phase which the majority of the people most likely will not be able to complete. Furthermore the phrasing of the diet is flawed. If it’s just fiber, then how about just taking fiber supplements?
Laguna Hills Weight Loss Clinic asks:
Is this a practical weight loss plan for most people in their everyday lives? Why or why not?
This is a practical weight loss plan for most people only in the sense that it encourages people to eat more healthy fiber. As far as actually implementing it in their daily lives it’s still suspect. As stated before, a 1,000 calories deficit diet is not the easiest regimen to adhere to.
