Diet: The Five Factor Diet
Overview:
Harley Pasternak, trainer to the stars, has developed his “Five-Factor” diet on these five principles: 5-week plan- This plan is designed to give you results in five weeks! And it's so easy and effective that you may naturally turn your five-week plan into a lifestyle (as many of Harley's personal clients tend to do). 5 meals a day - Say so long to hunger and cravings. By eating five 5-Factor meals every day, not only will you start losing weight but you'll feel less hungry throughout the day! 5-ingredient meals - Eating delicious and healthy meals doesn't have to be hard. Members get hundreds of recipes that use only five ingredients and take only five minutes to prepare. 25-minute workouts- Based on Harley's training experience, he believes that working out more often for shorter periods of time is more effective than spending hours at the gym. 5 cheat days in 5 weeks -Taking a diet break one day a week can empower you. You should never feel as if you're in a diet prison! Plus, Harley believes that controlled cheating can actually help you reach your goals.
The major keys:
Healthy principles are there, but the key to this weight loss plan is presenting it in a way that makes it easy to follow and fun to do for busy people.
Ladera Ranch Weight Loss Clinic asks:
What do you see as the major strengths of this weight loss plan?
This diet took off after people found out the Halle Berry was a client of Harley Pasternak and he helped her get in shape for the role in Catwoman. The major strength of this diet is that it is very simple to follow. It focuses on the similar principle as the Abs Diet by eating multiple (in this case 5) small meals per day to help control hunger. The foods are also easy to make and focus on low fat, lean protein, and complex carbohydrates. The most innovative aspect of this diet is that it allows the dieter to “cheat.” Base on my clinical practice, this can be very empowering. Most patients will ultimately cheat during their diet. If the diet is too restrictive, the patients often are left with a sense of guilt when they cheat and ultimately lead to them quitting the program. I have personally found that if I allow my patients to cheat once in a while, they actually don’t. Even when they “cheat” the guilt is much less. Also the exercise focuses more on resistance training than cardio. More and more research have shown that resistance training will help maintain lean body mass during weight loss therefore help maintain the dieter’s metabolism.
Ladera Ranch Weight Loss Clinic asks:
What are the weaknesses of this weight loss plan?
The weakness is very similar to the Abs Diet in the sense that despite the ingredients being simple and the meals easy to prepare, it still takes advance planning. Not to say that this is a bad thing because ultimately for success dieters will have to change their lifestyle and that includes more advance planning. However, by promising that everything is “easy” may cause a negative effect when dieters are not able to take in 5 meals per day due to theyr work schedule.
Ladera Ranch Weight Loss Clinic asks:
If followed closely, is this a weight loss plan that will work for users? Why?
I believe that it is a weight loss plan that will work for most people. It is relatively simple to follow and the "cheat" day will really increase the flexibility of the diet.
Ladera Ranch Weight Loss Clinic asks:
Is this a practical weight loss plan for most people in their everyday lives? Why or why not?
This is a practical plan for most people if they have the discipline to plan their meals in advance. One of the culprits for obesity is the advent of fast food because of its convenience. If dieters are able to pre-prepare the food sin advance or at least make sure that they have access to the ingredients, then this is a very practical weight loss plan.
